Polar + Claude / ChatGPT
Ask Claude or ChatGPT about your Polar training
OpenAthlete syncs your Polar activities, sleep and nightly HRV through Polar's official AccessLink API, and Claude or ChatGPT read them over MCP. The assistant can plan your weeks in the OpenAthlete calendar, but those sessions stay there: Polar's API doesn't accept workouts, so nothing is sent to your watch.
- Free on every plan

How it works
Three steps, about five minutes
Connect Polar to OpenAthlete
Create a free account, open Settings › Integrations and sign in with Polar on its own authorisation page. OpenAthlete receives a token, never your password.
Add OpenAthlete to Claude or ChatGPT
In Claude, add a custom connector; in ChatGPT, turn on developer mode and create a connector. Paste the address below and approve on the OpenAthlete page.
https://api.openathlete.org/mcpAsk
Write as you would to a coach. The assistant calls the tools it needs, shows which ones, and asks before it changes your calendar.
Two official sign-ins, no password handed over
Polar's AccessLink uses OAuth: you sign in on Polar's page and OpenAthlete receives a token, never your password. Community Polar MCP servers read the same API, so they can't send workouts to the watch either.
What the AI sees
What your assistant reads and writes, from Polar
The assistant never talks to Polar directly. It works on what OpenAthlete has synced, through 23 MCP tools.
- Activities
- Every new activity, with the recording, through Polar's notifications and an hourly check
- History on connection
- None: Polar only shares activities recorded after you connect. Upload older files to add them

- Plan in the calendar
- Yes: up to 60 sessions per request, with structured steps and targets from your zones, % of VMA, FTP or HR max
- Send workouts to Polar
- No: Polar's API doesn't accept workouts. Follow plans in OpenAthlete, on your phone, or in Google or Apple Calendar through the iCal feed
Metric import is off by default: turn on “Import metrics” for Polar in OpenAthlete.
Ask it
What Polar users ask
Under each prompt, the OpenAthlete tools the assistant calls to answer it.
“Show my nightly HRV and sleep for the last six weeks next to my weekly load. Do they move together?”
get_metrics→get_training_load“Plan four weeks of base training in my calendar: five hours a week, mostly zone 2, one tempo session.”
get_athlete_context→get_training_volume→plan_sessions“Compare this spring's 10 km race with last weekend's. Same course: how did heart rate and pace differ?”
get_activities→get_activity“I've got the flu. Clear the next five days and rebuild the following week gently.”

Polar's own AI and MCP, and OpenAthlete
What each one does, checked on 3 November 2026. Nothing stops you from using both.
- No MCP server or AI chat assistant from Polar that we could find.
- Polar's AccessLink API shares exercises, daily activity, sleep, Nightly Recharge and cardio load, but offers no way to send workouts to a watch.
- Community MCP servers read that same API, so they are read-only too.
- Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client, on the AI plan you already have
- Plans sessions in your OpenAthlete calendar only. They can't be sent to Polar; the iCal feed puts them in your phone's calendar.
- Every device in one history: Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Polar and FIT files, with training load and form
- Free, open source (AGPL), self-hostable. Your coach can work on your calendar through the same server.
Questions about Polar and AI
We found no official one on 3 November 2026. Community servers read Polar's AccessLink API. OpenAthlete reads the same API and adds a calendar, training load and the tools to plan.
No. Polar's API has no way for apps to send workouts, so no third-party tool can. The assistant plans the session in your OpenAthlete calendar, and you follow it from the app, your phone, or Google or Apple Calendar through the iCal feed.
Not automatically: Polar only shares activities recorded after you connect. Export older sessions from Polar Flow as TCX or GPX files and drop them on the OpenAthlete calendar.
Yes, once you turn on metric import for Polar in OpenAthlete (it is off by default). Sleep, nightly HRV, resting heart rate and VO2max then come in each day, and the assistant reads them with get_metrics.
No. The MCP server is free on every OpenAthlete plan, Free included. The model runs on your Claude or ChatGPT account, so their plan limits apply. Supporter (€5 a month) only covers the AI features inside OpenAthlete and unlimited coached athletes.
