Your watch, whatever the brand

Activities arrive from Garmin, COROS, Suunto, Polar and Strava, or as FIT, GPX and TCX files. Planned workouts go to Garmin, COROS and Suunto watches. Switching brands next year? Your history stays where it is.

Your week in OpenAthlete

Four days, one block, no spreadsheet

What a normal training week looks like when the plan, the watch and the analysis talk to each other.

01 · Monday

Plan the week in ten minutes

Drag sessions from your library onto the calendar, or copy last week and shift it. The weekly bar compares planned load with the range that suits your current fitness.

02 · Tuesday

Intervals on your wrist

The 5 × 4' at threshold you built with pace targets is already on your Garmin, COROS or Suunto. Run it, sync, and the activity links itself to the planned session.

On the watch

03 · Thursday

See what the session did

Laps graded against the plan, time in zones, aerobic decoupling, pace corrected for heat and slope. With AI turned on, a short read sums it up in three findings.

Read of the session

  • 4 of 5 reps on target
  • Decoupling 3.1%: steady
  • The heat cost you 6 s/km

04 · Sunday

Long run, then check your form

Two hours on the trails. Fitness, fatigue and freshness update, and the curve runs on over next week's plan, so you already know whether Tuesday will hurt.

The full toolkit

What others sell as Premium, free here

No 14-day trial and no Premium tier for features. The free account is the whole app.

Season view

Six or twelve months on one screen: blocks drawn with the mouse, A, B and C races, weekly load against the recommended range.

Season view

Workout builder

Warm-up, repeats, recoveries, targets in pace, heart rate, power or % of VMA and FTP. Save it once, drop it on any day.

Records and capacities

Best efforts from 400 m to 100 km, critical speed and power, race time ranges, Daniels training paces.

Activity analysis

Intervals and climbs detected for you, aerobic decoupling, grade-adjusted pace, weather along the route.

Sick, injured, travelling?

Mark the days off and OpenAthlete offers to move the planned sessions after the break, or clear them.

Sleep, HRV, resting heart rate

Pulled from Garmin, COROS, Suunto or Polar and shown next to each day's freshness.

Training load

Real training load, with the maths in the open

Each activity gets a Banister TRIMP from your heart rate. Fitness is the 42-day average, fatigue the 7-day one, freshness the gap between them. Planned sessions get a load estimate too, so the curve runs ahead into next week.

The formulas sit in the source code, not behind a trademark. Read them, check them, argue about them on GitHub.

AI, on your terms

Use the AI you already pay for

Add a key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral or another provider and every AI feature works on a free account. No key? Supporter includes a monthly allowance on ours. Nothing runs until you say yes.

A session from one sentence

"Hilly 1h15 with 6 × 3' at 10K pace" becomes a structured workout built on your zones. You edit it like any other.

Three questions after each run

How did it feel, how did you sleep, anything sore? Answer by text or by voice. Effort and pain go into your log.

Ask Claude or ChatGPT to adjust your week

There's no chatbot inside the app. Connect the assistant you already use through the MCP server: it reads your training and can plan up to 60 sessions straight into your calendar, and onto your watch.

How the AI works
My calf is tight after Sunday's long run. Adjust this week, keep Thursday's session if you can.
Moved Tuesday's hills to Wednesday as an easy 45' run, kept Thursday's 5 × 4' but on flat ground, and swapped Saturday's trail for a ride. 3 sessions updated.move_sessions · update_session

Invite your coach, for free

Send an invitation from your settings. Your coach sees your calendar, plans your sessions and comments on your runs. Their first five athletes cost them nothing, and you never pay to get their sessions on your watch. Two coaches, one for running and one for the bike? That works too.

What your coach gets

Your data leaves with you

Download everything in one file: profile, workouts, activities, metrics, messages. Delete your account and it's gone, links to your watch accounts included. And because the code is open, you can run your own copy.

Free doesn't mean nobody pays

Servers, AI and development are paid for by Supporters: €5 a month or €50 a year, with AI on our keys in return. Or buy a coffee, once. Both keep the project independent.

Athletes ask

Yes. Calendar, workout builder, watch sync, analysis, records, training load and the MCP server are all on the free account, with no time limit. You only pay if you want AI on our keys instead of your own: Supporter, €5 a month or €50 a year.

Not yet. Polar activities, sleep and HRV come in, but Polar doesn't accept planned workouts from OpenAthlete. Workouts reach Garmin, COROS and Suunto watches.

Connect Strava and your full history comes in; COROS sends it too, 50 files a day, so a long history takes a few days. Garmin and Suunto bring the last 30 days, and Polar only new activities. For the rest, upload FIT, GPX and TCX files in bulk.

No. Most of the app is built for athletes who plan their own training. If you start working with a coach later, invite them and they plan in the same calendar.

The web app is designed for phones and installs on your home screen today. Native iOS and Android apps are in testing and coming soon.

Only what each feature needs, sent to the provider of the key in use, and only after you allow it. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings, and turn off the post-activity questions on their own.

Your next block starts on Monday

Create an account and connect your watch. It takes two minutes, and your recent activities start coming in straight away.

Free forever. No credit card.
