Seville Marathon: what it asks of you, and how to train for it

01

Flat means no breaks

No climbs also means no descents to relax on: the same muscles work for 42 km. The classic mistake here is the first 10 km 10 s/km too fast because it feels easy. Put 3 × 5 km at goal pace inside a 25 km long run, three or four times in the plan, and learn what goal pace feels like when you are fresh.

02

The plan has already started

Counted back from 21 February, a 16-week plan started on Monday 2 November 2026. Starting now, skip the first weeks, never the last three. Christmas lands around week 8: keep that week easy and do the long run before the 24th.

03

Dress for 7 °C, race for 15 °C

February mornings in Seville often start in single digits. Wait in an old jumper you can leave at the start, wear cheap gloves for the first 10 km, and drink to schedule even if you are not thirsty: by the time slower runners finish, it is mild.

Pace and plan by goal

Seville Marathon: pick your goal time

Each goal links to its pace chart: splits every 5 km, every kilometre and a printable pace band. Eight goals also have a free 16-week plan with paces worked out from your VMA. Pick the goal your recent half marathon supports, not the one you hope for.

When to start a 16-week plan

Start your 16-week plan on Monday, 2 November 2026

Race day is Sunday, 21 February 2027, in week 16. Started later, the plan loses build weeks, not the taper: cut from the start, never the end.

Even pace on a flat course. Hills, heat, wind and crowded first kilometres all cost time: the course notes above say where.

Seville Marathon: questions runners ask

Sunday 21 February 2027. Entries are sold out (a record 20,000) and a waiting list is open on the official site.

On paper, one of the best: ten metres of relief according to the organisers and usually cool mornings. The course will not slow you down; going out too fast will. Pick the goal your recent half marathon supports and run even splits.

Our marathon plans last 16 weeks, so start on Monday, 2 November 2026. You need a base first: running three or four times a week for a few months, with a long run of about 1h15 already comfortable.
